Visit of Master’s Program Students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering – Universitas Islam Riau to the Semarang–Demak Toll Road Construction Project

Semarang, 25 November 2025 — PT Geoforce Indonesia welcomed postgraduate students of the Master of Civil Engineering Program from Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) as part of the Project Visit 2025 held at the Semarang–Demak Toll Road Section 1B. The visit aimed to provide first-hand insight into the application of Geosynthetic Tube (Gi-Tube) technology as a solution for coastal protection and erosion mitigation.

The visit began with a welcoming remark from Mr. Abdul Aziz Avicenna, Director of Sales, Marketing & Engineering at PT Geoforce Indonesia. This was followed by presentations from representatives of the Central Java–DIY National Road Implementation Agency and WIKA as the main contractor, who delivered an overview of the Semarang–Demak Toll Road development, including its objectives, benefits for coastal area connectivity, and the technical challenges encountered in the field. The session also included remarks from Mr. Muhammad Zaenal Muttaqin, who explained the purpose of UIR’s visit as part of enhancing the practical understanding of postgraduate students.

During the technical session, Yashinta and Ardyan from PT Geoforce Indonesia delivered an in-depth explanation of the Gi-Tube installation process. They presented the function of Gi-Tube for coastal protection, its working mechanism, installation stages, and various technical challenges faced during field implementation. The session provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the role of geosynthetic technology in a national-scale infrastructure project.

The students were then guided to the Gi-Tube installation area for direct on-site observation, allowing them to closely observe the installation process and understand the existing field conditions. In addition to the technical activities, the event also featured interactive games that increased student engagement and fostered a more dynamic interaction between the participants and the Geoforce Indonesia team.

Project Visit 2025 provided valuable real-world experience and new insights for UIR’s Master of Civil Engineering students regarding the implementation of geosynthetic technology in construction. PT Geoforce Indonesia hopes that this visit will strengthen collaboration between industry and academia while supporting the development of more competent civil engineering professionals in the future.
