ACIGS Webinar Series : Webinar #45 Best Young Professional Presentations from GeoAisia8 2025
Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelagic nation with more than 17,000 islands, faces significant challenges in safeguarding the resilience of its coastal areas. Java Island—home to major economic activities and the country’s capital—is among the regions most vulnerable to coastal abrasion. In response, Geoforce Indonesia continues to drive innovation through the development of geotextile-based coastal protection technologies, including the Geotextile Tube (GI-Tube). This solution is designed not only to dissipate wave energy but also to support mangrove ecosystem restoration. GI-Tube delivers three integrated benefits: reducing wave energy, creating calmer waters behind the structure, and enabling the formation of new sediment-rich habitats that naturally foster mangrove growth.
On November 6, 2025, Geoforce Indonesia’s commitment to sustainable coastal solutions was showcased on the international stage through its participation in the ACIGS Webinar Series #45, titled “Best Young Professional Presentations from GeoAsia8 2025.” During the event, Nastiti Tiasundari, R&D Manager of Geoforce Indonesia, was invited as one of the speakers representing Indonesia. Nastiti presented her research, “Performance of sludge-filled geotextile tubes to overcome muddy coastal abrasion,” which highlights the effectiveness of sludge-filled GI-Tubes in addressing coastal erosion in muddy shoreline environments. With more than a decade of experience in geotechnical engineering and geosynthetics, she demonstrated how leveraging locally available materials can enhance cost efficiency while maintaining optimal performance.
This participation not only reinforces the technical capability and dedication of Geoforce Indonesia’s R&D team but also stands as evidence that locally developed geosynthetic innovations are gaining recognition on the global stage. Through research, field implementation, and active engagement in international forums, Geoforce Indonesia continues to strengthen its contribution to coastal protection and rehabilitation efforts across the nation—delivering solutions that are effective, measurable, and sustainable for the future of Indonesia’s coastal regions.
