HPTT 80th Anniversary at FT UGM: PT Geoforce Indonesia Strengthens Industry–Academia Collaboration through Sustainable Infrastructure Contributions

Yogyakarta — The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FT UGM), commemorated the 80th Anniversary of Higher Technical Education Day (HPTT) as a moment of reflection on its long-standing journey, while strengthening collaboration among academics, alumni, and industry partners in building the future of engineering in Indonesia.

The celebration served as a cross-generational gathering that highlighted the Faculty’s tangible contributions in developing professional engineers who are characterized by integrity, adaptability, and global competitiveness. One of the key highlights of the event was the launch of the book “Cerita di Balik Dinding Hijau Kampus Teknik” (Stories Behind the Green Walls of the Engineering Campus). The book documents the campus development journey, alumni contributions, and various innovations that have shaped the character of FT UGM to this day. Presented in a personal and reflective narrative, it stands as a valuable record of cross-generational collaboration in the engineering field.

As part of the HPTT 80th anniversary celebration, the construction of a retaining wall along the slope of the FT UGM Futsal Field was also carried out to support student activities. This project represents a tangible contribution from alumni, supported by the technology and expertise of PT Geoforce Indonesia. The retaining wall was built using the Geoframe (MSE Wall) system, a modern engineering solution that emphasizes structural safety, construction efficiency, and alignment with green engineering principles. The system is designed to ensure long-term stability while minimizing environmental impact.

The collaboration among alumni, academic institutions, and industry partners reflects a strong commitment to sustainable campus infrastructure development that is not only functional but also future-oriented. This synergy demonstrates how industry engagement in higher education can create meaningful added value in improving facilities and enhancing learning quality.

On the same occasion, the President Director of PT Geoforce Indonesia and Secretary General of KATGAMA, Mr. Ir. Dandung Sri Harninto, M.T., delivered the Herman Johannes Award Decree and presented the official certificates to the award recipients. The awards were granted in recognition of the dedication, contributions, and lasting legacy of engineering professionals who have made significant impacts on the development of engineering in Indonesia.

Eight decades of FT UGM’s journey represent more than the passage of time; they reflect consistent efforts in building strong foundations of knowledge, character, and collaboration that benefit society. Through the HPTT 80th anniversary commemoration, FT UGM reaffirmed its commitment to remain a leading center for engineering education that is responsive to contemporary challenges, while serving as a strategic bridge between academia and industry.

The book “Cerita di Balik Dinding Hijau Kampus Teknik” symbolizes this journey by presenting stories behind campus development, the spirit of cross-generational collaboration, and the engineering values that shape today’s Faculty of Engineering. With the spirit of “80 Years of Excellence, Growing Forward,” FT UGM, together with its partners, alumni, and industry stakeholders, continues to move forward in building a sustainable, innovative, and globally competitive future for Indonesian engineering.
